In Remembrance...
C and I just returned from the 2005 Dallas Dinner
Table! It was an exceptional experience. The dialogue,
conversation and food were great. No better day to have it than the
Martin Luther King holiday.
Improving Race Relations...One Dinner at a Time
Dallas Dinner Table is an independent, non-profit organization focused
on improving race relations in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex…one
dinner at a time.
Our dinner was at Jaxx's Cafe in Addison
I started with cream of asparagus soup. My entree was the Crab Meat
Crusted Orange Roughy with sautéed spinach, parmesan mashed potatoes
in caper champagne sauce. I finished with bread pudding topped with
vanilla ice cream in a bourbon sauce.
The food was off da chain! But, most importantly the conversation
about race relations in Dallas in a comfortable setting was
enlightening. The goal of the group is to have people from different
backgrounds and cultures come together and discuss their views on
racism in a non combative manner. The meeting is very interactive;
each participant is give a question about racism that they ask the
other participants to answer. Through out the meeting we asked
questions of each other and share personal experiences.
Even nicer was the fact that it was a rather small group, only six of
us which made the interaction much easier. I came away from the
dinner empowered to share dialogue with others about a topic that is
often difficult to discuss with people outside of family and close
friends. Conversation about racism is the catalyst for change!
