I Love New York!
... Well, I've been back for a week now. Just been busy playing catch up with work. C and I had a great time in NY!! It was a short trip, I'm hoping to go back in the not so distant future. I hadn't been to NY since around '96. I went regularly then since I was involved in a long distance relationship at the time. Although I visited frequently, I never did the "tourist" things. So, this trip was a chance for me to really explore the city - It seemed as if I had never been there before.
Of course the primary reason for my visit was to see The Color Purple Musical! The hotel we stayed in was literally a 2 -3 min walk from the Broadway Theatre. We froze our ass off the first night in the hotel. After a night of sleeping fully clothe, with two blankets and two down comforters, I contacted Hotels.com and complained! If you ever stay in the Ameritania Hotel in New York City - do not accept room 816. However, room 906 is quite toasty.
We had an opportunity to visit the famous Carnegie Deli and had corn beef and pastrami sandwiches that were two big for the average human being!!!
We walked through Greenwich Village one night looking for some fun to get into
Didn't find much - but had a decent time. We also visited LoverGirl NYC to experience the night life scene. It was ooook, nothing write home about ya know. The music was the main thing I wasn't feelin - mostly Reggae. The bartenders were hot tho!
The Color Purple Musical was simply awesome! There are really no words to describe how good this show was. The musical was based on Alice Walker's novel and expounded on topics contained within the book that the movie dare touch - think Celie and Suga Avery in a "Brokeback Mountain" side story.
New York was fun! Rome, Italy you are up next - May 06.
i choose my vacation time during early summer so i can watch the colour purple in ny. ive been wishy washy about it since then?is it like wow wow wow
I plan to see the musical sometime before the summer. Besides being frozen in the hotel, seems like you ladies had a great time.
just got back from NY myself. LOVED The Color Purple and was happy to share it with friends from college. I can't tell you how pleased I was that they stayed true to Celie and Shug's story in ways that the movie did not.
