First Day

Well, I'm not gonna lose my new job talking about it here- on this damn blog! I've read about too many folks being "let go" behind such activities. I read something recently on a tech site about it too.

All I'm going to say is that it was a typical first day, nothing to do, and a lot of paperwork to fill out! One bummer tho, my boss sits right next to me! Not enthusiatic about the seating situation, I've never sat that close to my boss before - he can smell my fart if I decide to let one go :)

This is a chat convo I had today.

Wal-Mart & Cultural Differences

We entered Wal-Mart for our bi-monthly grocery shopping this evening. Immediately after grabbing the grocery cart and heading down the main isle in the store we heard loud crying through a language that seemed to be an Indian dialect. A woman then frantically passes us sobbing and saying something that we of course couldn't understand and slapping the side of her head with both hands in confusion. What seemed to be Wal-Mart management, a man in a "regular" shirt, (not the blue Wal-Mart smock with white lettering that we know and love) followed the woman with a radio in hand obviously "calling for back up" along with side-kick guy (probably another manager).

Why did all movement in the store stop?

Everyone was looking in the direction of the frantic; babbling Indian woman and Wal-Mart management personnel in hot pursuit. "C", "T" and I being the nosey folks that we can be, decided to make chase to see what was going on, because we couldn't see shit from our position in the store! "C" and I came to the conclusion that it was obiviously a lost child in the store. I can relate to the feeling of hopelessness when you've lost sight of your child in a store. When "T" was little she got out of "eye sight" once or twice and boy was that an awful feeling! But, let me tell you I've never reacted like this woman did, she was hollering at the top of her lungs and slapping her head (thats a new one). Slapping the side of my head would not be an option. Slapping "T's" ass when I found her for wandering off, was more feasible. "C" said, "that bad ass kid is probably in the toy section playing."

Ok, so we look for the direction the woman and the WalMart folks went with all the "action", pushing our "empty" grocery cart mind you! The two guys then walk by us talking to each other, saying the woman had found the child. We see the woman, so we decide to go her direction *tongue in cheek* the little Indian boy who looked to be at least 7 years old was standing at the end of the toy isle playing a damn video game! "C" said "I told ya!"

The very next isle over we see two little African American boys that are no more than 3 or 4 years old on the floor playing with Wal-Mart's toys like they were in the comforts of their own home. The mother was NOWHERE TO BE FOUND!

We couldn't help but laugh at the irony of it all. I told "C" the mother probably sent them to the toy section, and told them to stay there until she came back for them....

I saw this on the news this afternoon. Seems Volk.swagen is claiming no association with this ad and have plans to sue the makers, a British team known as Lee and Dan. However, its been reported that Volk.swagen did infact pay Lee and Dan 40,000 British pounds or $75,000, and gave them access to the lastest Polo model to do the shoot!

You will need Quicktime to see the ad.
